Malden Wanderers batsman Alan Cope hit a magnificent 105, but it was not enough for victory as his side were held to a Surrey Championship Premier Division winning draw at Sutton on Saturday.

Skipper Simon Crampton’s men piled up 279 for nine thanks to the efforts of Cope and John Hess (70), that put Wanderers in the driving seat.

Mark Ashcroft then claimed 5-54, but it was not enough to take Wanderers to the win as Sutton were 205 for eight at the close.

Crampton men host defending champions Wimbledon on Saturday. Weybridge made it six straight Surrey Championship Premier Division defeats since the start of the season as they crashed to league leaders Banstead on Saturday.

Skipper Joel Pope’s hosts were dismissed for 102 before Surrey stars Rory Burns (14), Tom Lancefield (37*) and Matt Spriegel (49*) eased the visitors home to a nine wicket win.

Weybridge, without a win this season, go to fellow strugglers Sutton – who themselves have won only once in the league this term – on Saturday.
