Kingston's Danny champion of the south

Kingston boxer Danny Parsons became the youngest champion in the brief history of the Queensbury Boxing League on Saturday night.
 

The 18-year-old claimed the vacant southern area lightweight title with by defeatuing Dagenham’s much-fancied Craig Hardy at Epsom Downs racecourse.
 

The former Battersea ABC amateur, handed his professional debut  having impressed promotors during some sparring sessions earlier in the summer, had predicted he would win  in the pre-fight build-up.
 

And Parsons, a former ABA Championships London area semi-finalist, was only too pleased make good on his promise with a unanimous points decision.
 

“I’ve never felt a feeling like this before in my life.  Winning this title means more to me than anything,” he said.
 

“From the opening bell I felt really strong in there and after watching Hardy’s previous fight I knew he wasn’t so good going backwards.
 

“My plan was to keep constant pressure on him and make him work for the whole fight and that’s exactly what I did and it all paid off.”
 

It was clear neither Parsons or Hardy were looking to hide from the start of the fight as the pair traded punches at a frenetic pace in an even opening round.
 

But Parsons’ body shots and trademark left hooks  caused damage with increasing regularity, as he closed out the contest in style.
 

The fight will be screened on British Eurosport in October.
 

The Queensbury League was established in 2010.
