Sprinter Dwayne Cowan was named the man of the match at the Southern Men’s League final on Saturday as Hercules Wimbledon just missed out on golden glory.

Hercules finished the season finale in Eton third in the seven-team table, 13.5 points behind winners Windsor.

It was a close run affair for bronze, however, as Hercules pipped Harlow to third spot by just half a point.

But Cowan was the stand out athlete winning the 200m in 21.47 seconds, and then anchoring the 4x400m relay team – featuring Rechmial Miller, Hamed Agboke and George Longworth – to victory in three minutes 27.84secs, posting an individual split of 46.4secs.

Theo Etienne took the 100m in 11.01secs and was runner-up in the 200m B race in 22.79secs.

In the 1,500m, Liam White (4:09.44) won the A race, while Alex Robinson (4:09.83) complpeted the double in the B race.

As did Steve Bayton (15:25.35) and clubmate Jonathan Cornish (15:43.96) in the 5,000m.

Ben Toomer was runner-up in the 3,000m steeplechase A race (10:18.96), while Rob Tuer won the B event (10:28.30).

Elsewhere, Hercules talented young sprinter Jaleel Ropar gave another impressive display in winning a double victory in the South London Athletics Network Super 8 meeting at Wimbledon Park on Sunday.

The 11-year-old, who has just left Haslemere Primary School, Mitcham, stormed to victory in the U13 boys 100m (12.1secs) and 200m (24.7secs).

His 100m time equalled his own club record set at the Ebbisham Boys League meeting at Coulsdon last month, while his 200m time bettered the club record he set the previous weekend when winning his 200m race for Surrey at the U13 Inter County meeting at Kingsmeadow stadium.
