Six Croydon Harrier athletes scooped medals at the South of England U17 and U15 indoor athletics championships at Lee Valley at the weekend.

Sprint hurdler Sophie Elliss continued her good early season form with a silver medal winning performance in the U17 women’s 60m hurdles in 9.00secs.

Ezra Rodrigues matched her feat in the U15 boy’s 60m hurdles in 9.24secs.

Coloma pupil Marcia Sey notched bronze in the U15 girls' 60m hurdles in 9.26secs, a time which would have ranked in the top 10 in the UK last year.

She later finish fourth in the 200m just behind club colleague Rhiannon Gayle, who sneaked onto the podium in 26.49secs.

Verter Oppong-Kyei (U17 men’s long jump, 6.35m) and Obi Onyejekwe (U17 men’s 60m hurdles, 8.41secs) also scooped bronze medals both securing personal bests in the process.

At the Surrey women’s cross-country league, Stevie Lawrence followed up her top eight finish at the Surrey championships last week finishing third in the U20 women’s category.

The Warlingham student clocked 35:45 for the 7km course - Jennifer Beecroft was 303rd out of the 379 finishers. The team placed 26th in the second division out of 34 clubs.

In the young athletes ranks, the U17 women’s team placed third, their highest finish in many seasons in this age group.

Naomi Carty returned to form in eighth over the 4km course, with Atlanta Drummond (11th) and Beth Matlock (13th) providing solid support.

Jessica Moore led the U15s home finishing 19th followed by Ellie McCormack in 25th.

In the U13 girls' race, Cassandra Howard recorded her highest league finish to date in 22nd in the 61-strong field.

Kyra Sethna-McIntosh, Leanne Moore and Sasha Howard completed the scoring quartet to finish eighth, their highest team finish of the season so far.

At the 2XU Surrey men’s cross-country league at Streatham Common, Omar Harhara finished sixth out of 95 finishers in the young athlete’s competition.

He led the U17/15 boy’s team to ninth on the day and now lie seventh overall in the 15 club league.

Matis Godet meanwhile spearheaded the U13 boy’s squad home to 12th on the afternoon and place 10th overall with one fixture remaining.

The men meanwhile finished ninth in the nine-club first division, and remain in the relegation zone in eighth.

A returning Mark Plackett finished 25th in a high class field.

He was followed by Alex Penfold (82nd), Alan Burn (107th), David Brown (113th) and Glenn Barden (114th).

The scoring 10 was completed by Neil Aikman (123rd), Mark Lynch (125th), Mark Maginn (126th), Matthew Kiernan (136th) and Colin Oxlade (143rd).
