Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club road runners Ben Toomer and Jon Cornish have had a busy weekend.

The duo, who helped Hercules win silver in the Surrey Road relay championship at Wimbledon Park earlier this month, turned out again in the South of England Road Relay Championship at Rushmoor Arena, Aldershot.

The team finish 15th out of 69 to qualify for the English Road Relay Championship at Sutton Park, Birmingham on October 3. 

Fred Slemeck got the team off to a solid start finishing 22nd on the opening lap in 19 minutes 22 seconds, the fastest individual time within the team, Joe Clark slipped to 24th (19:41) and then Joe Toomey dropped two further places posting 20:19 on the third leg.

From then on, Hercules Wimbledon moved steadily through the field.

Toomer improved to 24th with a time of 19:50, while Cornish was the second fastest member of the sextet clocking 19:30 to the handover in 17th position.

Kieran White, clocking in at 19:46 gained a further two places on the final lap to finish 15th.

Fastest member of the B team which finished 29th was second leg Matt Sharp who moved through from 36 to 27th position with a time of 19:35. He was the only member of the team to get inside 20 minutes.

The previous day, Toomer and Cornish had recorded individula wins in parkrun races.

Cornish beat a 1,000-plus field in Bushy Park to win by five seconds in 15:56.

Meanwhile Toomer headed home a 20-strong Hercules Wimbledon contingent on Wimbledon Common winning by 10 seconds in 17:48.
