Thames Hare & Hounds are the early pace-setters in Division One of the ladies 2XU Surrey League after a fine performance last weekend.

They top the table by 10 points from South London Harriers (98) in second and Clapham Chasers (106).

Leading the club home over the 6km course at Roundshaw Downs was Alexandra Cook in 23 minutes 39 seconds for fifth place overall.

Ruth Wallace (23:54), Antonia Burt (24:30), Elizabeth Stavreski (24:50) and Annette Gould (25:58) completed the scoring five.

Herne Hill Harriers ladies finished the opening meeting in eighth, while Hercules Wimbledon were 14th despite Claire Grima finishing fourth in 23:13.

In Division Two, Epsom & Ewell Harriers – led by Diana Norman in fourth (24:48) – finished fourth on the day, while Striders of Croydon had to settle for 12th, Epsom Oddballs 22nd and Croydon Harriers 29th.

In the men’s competition, it is Croydon Harriers leading the way over 7.5km in Division Two.

Peter Chambers (25:38) finished first overall, and clubmate Ben Savill (26:16) took second place at Wimbledon Common.

Alex Penfold (28:14) and Simon Loughran (28:34) were next home, and followed by David Brown (29:03), David White (29:09) and Ernie Hann (29:10).

Wimbledon Windmilers ended the opening day in seventh spot, with Mark Bridges clocking 28:25 to finish highest for the club in 18th.

Striders of Croydon had a tough weekend, finishing bottom of the pile in ninth – Philip Coales clocking 27:51 to finish 10th was the club’s highlight.

In Division One, Thames Hare n Hounds sit third, Hercules Wimbledon fourth and Herne Hill Harriers fifth after the opening meeting.
