Croydon's Monique Davis a triple world champion
Croydon athlete Monique Davis became a triple world champion earlier this month.
The 23-year-old won the 400m, 800m and 400m relay at the INAS World Indoor Athletics Championships at Sport City in Manchester.
Davis was in fine form as she ran one minute, 2.32 seconds to win the 400m, 2:25.96 to win the 800m and teamed up with Claire Ryan, Kimberley Aspland and Stephanie Moore to take the relay in 4:36.58.
“While I was hoping for slightly better times, I am happy I won my races,” she said.
“It’s good being part of this GB Team and I was impressed with the performances of my team-mates, our hard work is paying off.”
The team finished second in the medal table behind Portugal as they won six gold, six silver and three bronze medals at the championships – the first major international learning disability championships in the UK since 2008.
