All over: Ashtead will be back in Division One next season

Ashtead's two-season stay in the Ryman Surrey Championship Premier Division came to an end on Saturday with defeat at champions Wimbledon.

With relegation rivals Sutton winning against Normandy, Ashtead needed to pull off an unlikely victory against Wimbledon to take the survival battle to the final game of the season this weekend.

Rain reduced the game to a 20 over match but Ashtead were no match for their counterparts, losing by 49 runs and contemplating a return to Division One.

Wimbledon batted first and raced to 71-0 before a change to spin saw Tom Deighton and Dominic Sibley start to take wickets and the hosts ended on 154-7.

Despite a good start, Ashtead were left at 27-4 having lost Dave Burton, Stewart Cameron and Marlon Cornelius for ducks in the space of nine balls and they limped to 105-6 by the close of play.

They will look for some consolation in their final game with Guildford on Saturday.
