Brady plays down any talk of an FA Cup giant-killing for Leatherhead
Tanners boss Richard Brady is playing down the chances of an FA Cup giant-killing this weekend when Carshalton Athletic are the visitors to Fetcham Grove.
Leatherhead top Ryman Division One South, while the Robins are just three places above them in the non-League pyramid – perched 22nd in the Ryman Premier – having won just once in nine games.
Brady said: “Carshalton have had some tough games to start the season, so we are not taking anything for granted. They’re a good side under Tommy [Williams].
“Getting through the last round brought the FA Cup cash into the club [£1,925], and we’re hopeful that Carshalton will bring a good crowd so gate receipts should be up as well.”
Leatherhead did not enjoy the best of build-ups to the big game after they threw away a 2-0 lead at Eastbourne Town in injury time to take only a point off the south coast side.
While it lifted Leatherhead back to the top of Ryman Division One South, Brady was unimpressed with his team.
He said: "We had to change the defence during the match when Jerry Nnamani came off injured, and his replaced Tom Parkinson was ill.
"But when you're 2-0 ahead and going into injury time, you should see the game out.
"It was Keystone Cops stuff in defence, and fair play to Eastbourne, when they got one back, they smelled another.
"The referee seemed to find so much added time from somewhere, I have no idea why he played so much, but that is not an excuse."
He added: "Jerry is likely to be out for about three to four weeks. He did his hamstring and he will be difficult to replace.
"Players can normally cover any position, but a central defender is unique in that it is not a position easily slotted in to.
"We shall miss Jerry, he is a top player and part of the back bone of our side."
Missing: Jerry Nnamani will be out of action for up to four weeks with a hamstring injury SP70817
