Dons boss Neal Ardley has hailed his side’s caring side after another drama-filled League Two clash.

Last weekend, Jack Midson grabbed a 97th minute winner against Cheltenham, and on Tuesday night, midfielder Sammy Moore was the goal-scoring hero to steal a point at Northampton Town for 10-man Dons.

The secret behind these, and the last gasp draw at Burton Albion two weeks’ ago, is, according to Ardley, simple.

He said: “It is easy to say because these are my players, but they genuinely care.

“I have been at clubs before where there are some bad eggs, those who don’t care because summer is coming or who know they will be leaving at a certain time.

“If you saw how the players celebrated those late goals, it is clear to see how much they want it as much as the fans.”

Dons have become a tough side to beat, losing just once in seven outings - conceding nine goals in that time.

They are eight points outside the play-offs, with Ardley admitting that goal would be an outside chance.

And while relegation is unlikely to threaten the Dons, Ardley has set other goals to maintain a strong run-in for the last seven games.

He said: "At the start of the season I had ambitions of reaching the play-offs but we've had dips in form that have seen us come up short there.

"But I want us to get as many points as we can - the most this club has got in League Two is 54 and I want to beat that.

"The highest we've finished is 16th, and if we can top that, then we're going in the right direction."
