A die hard Crystal Palace fan has built a replica model of Selhurst Park......out of Lego.

Chris Smith, 31, has gone where not many fans have gone before and set himself the target of building a Lego stadium for all 92 football league clubs.

And he has has started by building the home of his beloved Eagles.

He plans to sell the stadiums, along with other football memorabilia made out of lego, after launching a company Brickstand.

After getting a start up loan from the Government to start and 1,600 Lego bricks later, Mr Smith completed his Lego remake of the ground.

The model, which took a few weeks to build, can be bought for £299 but the Eagles fan is hoping he can make money from selling merchandise such as printed t-shirts with the stadium on them.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has already tweeted about Mr Smith’s new venture which has been going for just over a week.

The 31-year-old, who now runs play schemes during the holidays for autistic children, is hoping his Selhurst Park replica can get pride of place in the reception area at the ground.

The former primary school teacher currently lives in Altrincham but his dad and grandma both lived near Sanderstead meaning there was only ever going to be one team he would support.

Distance has never stopped the 31-year-old from getting to home and away games and up until his grandma passed away he held a season ticket at Selhurst Park.

Now he has combined his love for Lego with his passion for Palace.

Mr Smith is building other grounds and has almost finished Everton’s Goodison Park and has made a start on Liverpool’s Anfield.

There are also plans to follow in the footsteps of Ni Zhaoxing and rebuild the Crystal Palace although it is a bit of a pipe dream at the moment.

Mr Smith said: "Lego has never made any football stuff really so it seemed like a logical thing to do.

"It is a bit of a nightmare at times and building the roof the Holmesdale Road stand was pretty tricky but after I built that one I just wanted to keep on going.

"It would be amazing to see the model at Selhurst Park, I suppose it is quite a unique thing and it has never been done before."

And if Crystal Palace rebuild Selhurst Park? Mr Smith added: "I would happily make a new model if that happens but you never know, it might make my original model even more valuable."
