Marouane Chamakh admitted he was pleased to do his former club Arsenal a big favour last night by helping Crystal Palace stun Everton 3-2.

The result means the out of sorts Gunners, who were completely outplayed and outclassed 3-0 by the Toffees just 10 days earlier, are back in the driving seat for Champions League qualification despite having already been hammered away at all of the sides around them.

Chamakh wasn’t exactly a fans’ favourite with the Emirates crowd during his three three-year spell in north London.

But there is clearly no bad feeling on the Crystal Palace striker’s part as he wished Arsene Wenger’s side all the best in their bid to pip the Toffees to fourth spot having done them a massive favour last night at Goodison Park.

He said: “I’m happy because I want to see Arsenal in the Champions League next season.

“I’m more happy that we won - but happy for Arsenal too.”

The result at Everton took Palace to 40 points, 10 clear of the relegation zone with four games to play.

But the Chamakh insisted that Palace will remain focussed in the remaining matches and try to pick up as many points as possible.

He added: “We aren’t going to stop after this.

“We are happy and confident and will be like that until the end of the season.

“There’s a really good atmosphere with the staff and the players.”
