Crystal Palace skipper Mile Jedinak insists no one was thinking about breaking the club’s record of consecutive wins in the Premier League.

The record stands at five – achieved in the first season of the top division in 1992 under Steve Coppell – and had the Eagles overcome Manchester City at Selhurst Park on Sunday, it would have been six.

However, goals from Edin Dzeko and Yaya Toure broke Palace hearts in a 2-0 win.

Jedinak said: “I am not too sure if we thought about previous records, you just try and go about your business.

“People will always mention records and bring them up, and fair enough, but going into games you don’t really think about that too much.

“It’s a shame we don’t have the record¼, but saying that, what we have done so far has been great.”

Palace host Liverpool on Monday in the final game of the season at Selhurst Park, before the trip to Fulham on May 11.

Jedinak said: “It is a shame the run has come to an end.

“I know as much as anybody that we tried to keep that run going, even though we were playing City.

“I felt we let ourselves down a little bit in that sense.

“The fans came out and backed us all the way against City which is fantastic.

“It was just a little bit disappointing we let them off the hook in a sense.”

He added: “It was always going to be difficult when you put yourself on the back foot in conceding too early and we didn’t really give ourselves too much of a chance.

“But there is still a lot to play for, in terms of the next couple of games.

“I am sure we won’t allow ourselves to try and do that sort of thing again.”
