Assistant manager Micky Stephens reckons the signing of Jamie White is the final piece in the puzzle that has been Sutton United’s season thus far.

White, who put pen to paper this week, joins from Bristol Rovers after having his contract cancelled at the Conference club.

The striker had been taken to Rovers by manager Darrell Clarke after the pair had guided Salisbury City to the Conference in 2013 – during which time White hit 11 goals in 14 appearances.

However, the 24-year-old has failed to recreate that form for Rovers, having made five appearances without scoring.

Stephens said: “It is no secret that Paul [Doswell] has been looking for a replacement since Jamie Taylor left, and he has been chasing Jamie White for some time, but he’s had to be patient.

“Jamie is all about goals, he is a predator and he will be a great addition to the side.

“It did not quite work out for him at Bristol Rovers, and that sometimes happens for a player.

“But at our level, he is a proven goal-scorer, and I know he just wants to return to scoring goals.”

He added: “I believe he is the final piece we need to start moving up the table.

“We’ve missed that striking potency that can turn a 1-0 lead into a 2-0 lead, and that can kill off a side.”

The lack of killer instinct raised its head again on Saturday when Craig Dundas’ opener proved fruitless as Hemel Hempstead came from behind to win 2-1 at the Lane.

This weekend, United, 16th in the Conference South table, go to third-placed Bromley.
