One may be going, and one may be staying, but both players finished the season with a parting bow to the AFC Wimbledon faithful.

Callum Kennedy and Darius Charles were integral to Dons’ League Two play-off final victory at Wembley on bank holiday Monday.

Kennedy, who has not had his contract renewed, set up Lyle Taylor’s opener to put Plymouth Argyle on the back foot.

At the back, Charles and Paul Robinson’s central defensive partnership kept the Pilgrims at arm’s length throughout the 90 minutes.

It was all carried out in front of the hordes of Dons supporters, and both players paid homage to yellow and blue army.

Kennedy said: “I have been at other clubs where you talk about the fans, but to decide that you are not happy about something, make your own club and to then be going to League One football some 14 years later is unheard of.

“It wears off on the players, I have never felt a connection between the fans and the players as much as I have here – that showed on the pitch.”

Charles added: “The reason we are here is because of the fans – they were here a long time before us and they will be here a long time after us.

“They are literally the 12th man – it does not matter how you are feeling on any given day, when you come out and see how much it means to them, it just gives you that extra five per cent.”
