Bees go back to the top

A goal in each half from Jonathan Douglas and Marcello Trotta sent Brentford back to the top of the League One table with a 2-1 win over Gillingham.

Midfielder Douglas volleyed home Jake Bidwell's cross on 22 minutes before Trotta doubled the advantage from the penalty spot on 70 minutes.

Cody McDonald pulled one back for the visitors, but the Bees held on in dreadful conditions at Griffin Park.

It means the Bees are still unbeaten under new boss Mark Warburton and it signalled a return to winning form after Saturday's 1-1 draw at Walsall.

"It was nice to get back to winning ways, especially at home," said Brentford goalkeeper David Button.

"We could have been more clinical with the chances we had, but anything less than three points would have been an injustice with the way we played."
