Brentford promotion just the tonic after Doncaster disaster

After being mobbed by the  home supporters on Saturday, Brentford’s players
retreated to the changing rooms to watch their destiny unfurl on Sky Sports News.

As the referee called time on the Bees’ win over Preston, sparking a mass pitch invasion, Leyton Orient had slipped up at Crawley, while Rotherham trailed 4-2 at Wolves with just stoppage time remaining.

Little did those dancing about on the hallowed turf, including myself, realise the drama that was to unfold at Molineux.

The Millers remarkably pulled it back level at 4-4, meaning one more goal would delay the Bees promotion party for another game.

Players watched nervously as another goal went in at Wolves – to their relief it was for the hosts, who found time to add a sixth late on.

I did not hear about all this until well after it happened.

After the agony of last season, Good Friday was the perfect tonic.
The Bees did it in style,  and Mark Warburton’s men can now look forward to life in the promised land of the Championship.
