Brentford boss Mark Warburton continues to be proactive in the transfer market as he gets the Bees ready for their first season in the Championship.

Warburton has bolstered his attacking options, signing strikers Nick Proschwitz and Tommy Smith in the past couple of days.

Proschwitz joins from Premier League Hull City on a one-year deal, and the Bees' gaffer was thrilled to have signed such an experienced player.

“We have had a long search to find the right striker that offers us quality and a variety of weaponry,” he said.

“Nick put in some fantastic performances in Germany before his move to Hull. He is an aerial threat and has very good technical ability.

“We think he will bring outstanding quality to the squad, and we look forward to him playing an important part this season.”

The 27-year-old joined Hull in 2012 after spending the majority of his career in his native Germany, but opportunities were limited at the KC Stadium and he started just 12 games in all competitions.

Proschwitz did manage seven goals in those games and 25 substitute appearances, and spent the end of last season on loan at Barnsley, scoring four goals in eight Championship starts.

His addition means Warburton has now brought eight new faces to Griffin Park this summer, after securing Alex Pritchard on loan from Tottenham, as well as the signatures of Alan Judge, Marcos Tébar, Andre Gray, Moses Odubajo, Scott Hogan, and Tommy Smith.

Smith signed after being on trial since the middle of last month.

The experienced forward – formally of Watford, Sunderland, Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City – signs on a one year deal.

Warburton said: “I am delighted that the period Tommy spent training with us has come to a successful conclusion.

“We always knew he would add value on and off the pitch and I am sure he will make a contribution over the season ahead.”

Smith played 24 games as Cardiff were promoted to the Premier League in 2012/13 but failed to make an appearance in the top flight.

Meanwhile, Brentford U21 goalkeeper Mark Smith has signed a short-term loan deal at Hitchin Town.

The move comes after the Southern League Premier Division side made an SOS call to Bees for urgent goalkeeping assistance.

Smith, 18, who joined Brentford at the end of last season from west London neighbours QPR, met his new Hertfordshire team-mates for the first time yesterday [Thursday], and is expected to go straight into side that travels to Corby Town tomorrow [Saturday].
