The curse of the manager of the month award struck as Brentford saw their five-match winning streak ended at Huddersfield Town.

Bees boss Mark Warburton was honoured for his side's November exploits on Friday, but was forced to watch as Sean Scannell and goalkeeper Alex Smithies inspired the Terriers to a 2-1 win in west Yorkshire.

Brentford always looked a threat - particularly through Alan Judge and Alex Pritchard in the first half - but it was the hosts who got themselves in front and were ultimately worth the three points.

Scannell, a constant threat, opened the scoring on 18 minutes, when he slammed home from close range at the far post soon after Judge's deflected effort had forced a fine save from Smithies.

Brentford made a poor start to the second half when Jake Bidwell turned the ball into his own net minutes after the break and it looked as though Huddersfield would run away with it.

But a double substitution saw the introduction of Tommy Smith and Nick Proschwitz on 69 minutes  and the former set up Jonathan Douglas for his fourth goal of the season a minute later to set up a barnstorming final 20 minutes

Judge fired wide when well placed with 13 minutes to go and the same player was denied from a free kick he won himself by man of the match Smithies.

Smithies saved from Smith from the resulting corner and Douglas was also denied from close range in a frantic finale, which included a strong penalty shout when Proschwitz was felled in the box at the death.
