Brentford midfielder Sam Saunders has confirmed he has signed a new contract with the club keeping him at Griffin Park beyond the end of the season.

The 28-year-old, out of contract in the summer, had been stalling over terms offered to him by boss Uwe Rosler.

But the former Dagenham & Redbridge man, who made the announcement on Twitter, has since confirmed he has put pen to paper on a new deal that keeps him at the club until the end of next season at least.

There is a clause that will automatically extend the contract for another year should Saunders, who has scored eight goals in 29 appearances this term, play a certain number of games next season.

"I always wanted stay," he said.

"With the gaffer coming in, he has taken to me, he has played me and I've enjoyed playing.

"We just needed to get a few bits sorted out.

"I'm enjoying the different roles he has given me and it is another challenge I'm relishing.

"I can only see Uwe progession the club and that was one of the reasons I wanted to stay. If I didn't feel that way I wouldn't have stayed.

"I wouldn't say we are a team that kicked the ball and ran after it. The gaffer likes to play as I like to play.

"We will be striving for promotion, if not this year then next, and we want to finish the season strongly."
