Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew praised his new charges after a professional performance downed Dover Athletic in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.

Goals from Scott Dann (two), Dwight Gayle and Kevin Doyle saw off the threat of Conference Premier Dover 4-0 in front of a partisan crowd in Kent.

Pardew’s first match in charge since his official unveiling as manager on Friday featured a return for Glenn Murray, Barry Bannan and Stuart O’Keefe – as well as a rare appearance in goal from Wayne Hennessey.

Pardew said: “We applied ourselves well. We ticked all the attitude boxes you want to tick.

“We needed to show a bit of exuberance and a bit of class and the players used that instruction really well.

“We never looked in trouble really and at any level that is very difficult to achieve.”

The 53-year-old, who starred in Palace’s run to the FA Cup final in 1990, added: "We have really good honest players, their attitude, even before I arrived, was spot on, we just need to open our wings a bit and show we can play.

"I know the heartbeat of the team, I know how it works.

“The chairman and I are looking to improve things on all levels but the honesty of the players will hopefully see us through."

The draw for the fourth round of the FA Cup takes place tonight at 7.30pm on BBC 1, and Palace are ball number five.
