Yaya Sanogo is destined to do the business at Arsenal, and Crystal Palace will help him on his way, says boss Alan Pardew.

The 21-year-old French international has signed on loan at Selhurst Park until the end of the season, and could make his debut in the Premier League trip to Burnley on Saturday.

He has found chances limited at The Emirates, although he did make an appearance off the bench in last year’s FA Cup final win over Hull City.

Sanogo also scored earlier this season in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

However, Pardew says building the striker’s confidence is key, and game time at Palace is the answer.

“Yaya comes into our club with much more of an even chance of starting or playing,” Pardew said.

“I spoke to Arsene [Wenger], and he has high regard for the player and feels that it would be good for Arsenal and for him to come on loan.

“It’s a platform for him, no more than that, to see if he is ready to be a Premier League player for Arsenal.

“He needs to prove that here, and his first few days training have been very good and we’re pleased to have him.”

He added: “He has a fantastic CV, full of all the grades you need before you become a Premier League player. He’s done all that, he’s U21 French international, etc.

“He now needs to grow in confidence and stature to play in the Premier League.

“That doesn’t always come easy, but he is certainly going to get more game time here, he will get that confidence and he will become a good player for Arsenal.”

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Sanogo requested the number nine shirt, and Pardew acknowledged it is an early sign that confidence will not be an issue.

Happy bunny at Palace: Yaya Sanogo

He said: “Asking for the number nine shirt is a positive, if he had asked for the number 39 shirt I would have been a little concerned.

“But it’s difficult for a young player to come out of a club like Arsenal, and come to a club like ours and hit the ground running, we’ll have to wait and see how he beds in – but so far, so good, he seems to be enjoying himself.”

And it is not just goals that Pardew expects from his first acquisition as Palace boss, and he can see other attributes that will help maintain Palace’s recent good form.

He said: “Strikers in the Premier League do not always have to contribute just goals.

“Yaya offers that chaos factor, you are not quite sure what he’s going to do.

“He has a technical ability that sometimes surprises you, and he can score goals – his main job here is to grow as a player and goals will make him grow quicker.”

He added: “I have been lucky in my career – most of my strikers have hit the ground running, and hopefully Yaya does the same.”
