Eagles boss Alan Pardew reckons Wilfried Zaha still has a part to play on the international stage, but he would not confirm if the winger has a future at Selhurst Park.

Zaha, on loan from until the end of the season from Manchester United, has impressed Pardew, and he has played a part in all three games since the manager’s arrival.

With only nine days until the end of the January transfer window, only Yaya Sanogo has joined Palace – triggering speculation that Manchester United could be persuaded to part with 22-year-old Zaha on a permanent deal.

However, Pardew sees things differently, saying: “I am not sure about that option [making Zaha a permanent player].

“What I do know is that he is a player who needs to get his career on the move again.

“He’s had a decent couple of games, he’s made an impact and he needs to build on that.

“That is where he’s at. He’s a talent who needs to nail down a permanent position, whether on loan or as a permanent signing, but I have been very pleased with what I have seen so far.”

He added: “His opportunities at Manchester United have been limited, and that’s been a problem for Zaha.

“It’s been a problem for a lot of young players – especially for those at the big four clubs. Wilf is one of the lucky ones that he has a platform to play here.”

Zaha made his international senior debut in November 2012 following a scintillating start to play-off winning season in the Championship.

However, as his domestic game time dwindled he fell out of Roy Hodgson’s plans – but Pardew can see that changing.

He said: “Wilf has the ability, but there are a lot of players who have the technical ability.

“I have worked with players who had fantastic technical ability for the Premier League, but who have only ever played in League One.

“You need all the attributes, you need to have the strength, the power, the mental strength and technical quality to become a Premier League player, and not many players can put it all together.

“Wilf has a lot going for him and he has the potential to still impact on the international stage at some point.”

Palace go to Southampton, one of Pardew’s former employers, this weekend in the fourth round of the FA Cup – a full preview will follow.
