Mile Jedinak accepted conceding such an early goal had disrupted Crystal Palace’s game plan as Tony Pulis made a winning Selhurst return with West Brom on Saturday.

The visitors grabbed a vital second minute advantage courtesy of James Morrison’s header and wrapped up the points after the break when Craig Gardner added a stunning second.

Jedinak always knew it was going to be a battle against Pulis’ Baggies but felt it was always an uphill task once Morrison had scored.

The Palace skipper said: “I think conceding early, particularly in the way Tony sets up his teams, it’s always going to be difficult.

“It’s up to us to try and find something to break it down. We weren’t able to, so we have to put it behind us and move forward.

“We’ve had a tremendous run of form of late and you can’t fault any of the boys’ efforts. We really had a go and today just wasn’t meant to be.”

Jedinak added: “It was not good to concede so early. It’s never good because we know that’s what they’re looking for.

“They work on that a lot, as do we, and it doesn’t really sit well. It happened, you can’t dwell on it and there were still 88, 90 minutes to go.

“It was unfortunate but that’s the way it went. It’s always going to be difficult.

“They look to get the goal early and they do what they do very well.

“We just didn’t really get the rub of the green in that final third. We still had some good chances but it just didn’t go in for us.”

The West Brom game was the first of two back-to-back encounters in SE25 ahead of Hull City’s visit this weekend, a game in which Jedinak is desperate to return to winning ways.

He said: “It was great being back at Selhurst Park. It was great to be seeing everyone again and the fans getting behind the team.

“It’s just disappointing that we didn’t get the three points because it would have been great to do that as well.

“We have to bounce back and dust ourselves down, it’s another bump in the road but we have no choice.

“The games are coming and we’ll definitely do that.”
