Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright has praised Alan Pardew after the Crystal Palace boss masterminded another victory over Liverpool at the weekend.

DR Congo international Yannick Bolasie provided the Eagles with a lead after 20 minutes, but in-form midfielder Phillipe Coutinho drew level for the hosts on the stroke of half-time.

Palace secured their second win over the Reds in six months eight minutes from time, as Scott Dann rose well to nod home a winner at Anfield.

The victory, which followed Palace’s goalless draw against Manchester United last weekend, propelled the south London club back into the top eight in the Premier League.

Palace have enjoyed a superb run of form since Pardew took over the club in January and Wright, 52, reserved special praise for his former team-mate.

The former Palace and Gunners forward said in his blog for The Sun: “Talking of defining games, what about my old mate Alan Pardew pulling off another win at Liverpool yesterday?

“We were both in the Palace side which so looked forward to going to Anfield after we won promotion in 1989, and got thumped 9-0.

“I’m sure he’ll still use that game as part of his pre-match talk, warning his players you can get tanked there if you’re not on your game.

“It may not be the Liverpool team of old but it’s still one heck of an achievement.”

Pardew has won 16 of his 30 games in charge of Palace and will be hoping to maintain that impressive record against Sunderland when the Premier League returns after the international break.
