He may not be playing in the Premier League for Crystal Palace right now, but fans’ favourite Julian Speroni is still in the action.

The goalkeeper, along with team-mates Bakary Sako and Chung Yung-Lee took time out this week to visit The Children’s Trust in Tadworth.

They were joined at the UK’s largest rehabilitation unit for children with brain injuries by the Eagles’ first team assistant manager John Salako.

Together they signed autographs and posed for pictures with the youngsters.

Speroni said: “Hopefully, we have put a smile on the faces of some of these children.

“These youngsters are inspiring people, with great bravery and fight in them and it’s especially important that they have a charity like The Children’s Trust to aid their recovery.”

The visit was organised by the Crystal Palace Foundation to raise the spirits of the young children who have undergone surgery recently.

Mikey, 11, who is at The Children’s Trust for intensive rehabilitation following a brain tumour, got to spend one on one time with the players. His goal is to relearn how to talk and walk again.

His mother Donna said: “Mikey has had a really tough few years, he’s had brain surgery three times and lots of chemo.

“We have been at The Children’s Trust for six months and Mikey has worked really hard at his rehabilitation.

“He loves football and he was really excited about meeting the Palace players.”

She added: “He was determined to show them what he has been practising – he stood up, walked and even kicked a football. He was so proud.

“Their visit has been the perfect thing to keep him motivated.”
