Scott Dann admitted the Crystal Palace players felt they had dropped two points after their goalless draw with Everton on Wednesday night.

Palace created a number of chances in the second half after Everton’s James McCarthy was sent off for a second yellow card in the 52nd minute.

However, despite the man-advantage the Eagles failed to capitalise on their chance to move above the Toffees in the table, and Dann felt they “threw away” two points.

“I think we all feel as if it’s two points dropped,” he said.

“Especially when they go a man down and we had some quite good chances in the second half.

“Even in the first half I thought we were the team looking to push, unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

“We couldn’t quite put the ball in the back of the net today.”

Although the centre-back was disappointed not to win, Dann was upbeat about Palace’s recent form, which has now seen them unbeaten in their last three games.

“We got a good result against West Ham, a good result against Norwich, you come away from this game feeling it’s two points lost, but it’s another point in the right direction,” he added.

“Especially with the run we were previously on it’s a point that is welcome but it does feel like we threw two away.”

Striker Dwight Gayle was forced off with an injury at half-time, and although Conor Wickham and Emanuel Adebayor both made their comebacks from the bench, Palace couldn’t find a breakthrough.

Although all missed good opportunities in front of goal, Dann insisted the forwards will need time after coming back from spells on the sidelines through injury.

“Gayley’s been out injured a while, I know he scored against West Ham and unfortunately [against Everton] he had a bit of a niggle and had to come off,” said Dann.

“The two lads who came on, they’ve only just come back from injury, they need a couple of games to get back up to speed.

“They got themselves in some good positions, I thought Ade linked the ball up well when he came on, he was coming off and getting himself on it.

“They both had a couple of chances. In a game or two’s time they put those chances away.”

Palace travel to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon before a trip to Manchester United on Wednesday 20 April.
