From what I’ve been told, the clash against Bournemouth a few weeks ago was very much a stereotypical ‘game of two halves’.

I couldn’t see much because in a cost-cutting scheme my dad has ever so generously moved us directly behind a pillar for the season, blocking the entire view of the Whitehorse Lane end, meaning Yohan Cabaye wasn’t the only person to miss the penalty that day.

What I was fortunate enough to see was how we reacted to a dreadful opening 45 minutes with a sensational second half display, in which we really should have scored several more times and almost two weeks later I’m still in disbelief that we somehow didn’t win that game.

It’s a good start but one dominant half against Bournemouth doesn’t make up for months of embarrassing performances in the same way that the pointless closure of Fabric will do nothing to eradicate drug culture.

However, it’s something to build on and the addition of Loic Remy will hopefully help us find our feet again.

A few years ago a strike force of Remy and Benteke would have been one of the most feared in the league, so if we can somehow fit them into the same system and able to rediscover anything close to their form of old, we could be in for a very fun season.

Wandsworth Times:

The Bournemouth game showed us that we just don’t work playing 4-4-2 so it will be interesting to see how we plan on using the two together, when Remy is fit of course.

If there’s one man that can be described as an adaptable tactician, that can get players organised and working in a functional system that gets the best out of everybody, then it definitely is not Alan Pardew. But we can dream.

It shows how competitive the TV money has made the Premier League when Middlesbrough, a team just promoted from the Championship, are able to attract players such as Victor Valdes and Alvaro Negredo, whilst I spent the summer reading headlines like ‘Boro linked with Robin Van Persie’ and was still able to keep a straight face.

The league has come a long way since the days of Florian Marange and Elliot Grandin.

I’m sure Valdes couldn’t believe his luck after signing his contract and getting a second crack at the Premier League.

I bet it’s every young Spanish boy’s dream to get the chance to move to Middlesbrough and train each day with the likes of Grant Leadbitter and David Nugent.

Wandsworth Times:

They’ll likely be in and around the relegation places this season and despite it only being September, I think anything other than a win (or at least another very convincing draw) will put a lot of pressure on Pardew.

The Bournemouth match showed he hasn’t quite lost the dressing room yet but unless we get a win anytime soon then just about everybody is going to lose patience with him, including Steve Parish.

I’m sure that’s the last thing Parish wants to do, but I wonder if just in case of disaster he’s keeping one eye focused on the situation at West Brom, with Pulis reportedly ready to walk out any minute now.

I’m sure that would go down wonderfully with our fanbase...
