Mark Hughes is targeting FA Cup glory for Fulham after the Cottagers eased into the fifth round by dismantling Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The 4-0 win at Craven Cottage, with all four goals coming in the opening half, saw Fulham set up a last-16 home date with either Bolton or Wigan Athletic.

And Hughes admits things are opening up nicely.

He said: “Obviously it is early days but that is two rounds we have negotiated comfortably and things are looking good.

“I have always been a big advocate of doing well in every cup competition you enter, and the FA Cup is a competition very close to my heart.

“I have had success in it both as a player and a manager and we want that again this year.

“We have another home draw and I see no reason why we cannot progress a lot further.”

Two early Danny Murphy penalties, the second after Michael Dawson was red-carded, was followed by goals from Brede Hangeland and Moussa Dembele as Fulham put Harry Redknapp’s men to the sword.

And the Cottagers boss was purring after the display.

Hughes added: “I do not think there are many sides that could cope with us on that form.

“The sending off obviously helped but I am pretty sure we would have gone on to win anyway.

“We lacked a cutting edge earlier this season and that was hurting us, but now we are getting the players back we are turning that around.”

The Londoners faced Newcastle last night (Wednesday) before traveling to Aston Villa this weekend.

And Hughes was eager to pay tribute to skipper two-goal skipper Murphy, who signed a new one-year contract extension this week.

He added: “Danny is a massive influence on the way we play.

“The goals are a bonus but his general play has been excellent this season and he is a great player to have around.

“We are delighted he has singed a new deal and it is great news for everyone at the club.”

Fulham’s next three matches: Feb 5 Aston Villa (a), 14 Chelsea (h), 19 Bolton/Wigan (FAC, h)
