Sutton United boss Paul Doswell is expecting three Skrill South points this weekend when the basement boys Dorchester Town visit Gander Green Lane.

Moreover, he is hoping Saturday’s game will kick-start the striking partnership between the two Jamies – Taylor and Slabber.

In 13 league games, the names behind the Strikers are Key initiative have only featured together on three occasions due to a series of injuries to both men.

Doswell is convinced the pairing will sparkle, but they need time together to gel as a duo.

“It is frustrating that we are a third of the way into the season and they have only played a handful of games together.

“I am like everyone, the fans, the players, the board, I want am desperate to see those two playing together,” he said.

“They will bring goals because Jamie T will get in behind defences and that compliments Jamie S’s role in front of defences.

Injury-prone: Jamie Taylor has found it tough to get a run of games due to never-ending injuries

“They should both be playing this weekend, and I have said to them, wouldn’t it be nice to get a run of eight or so games going.”

Doswell is sweating on the availability of Sam Rents (hamstring), Dale Binns (groin) and Damian Scannell (illness), while Mitchel Nelson serves the second of a three-match ban.

Marvin Williams remains up to three weeks away from training, while Dean Sinclair’s rehabilitation continued with 90 minutes in the reserve side last weekend.

Doswell said: “We are a small squad but there is no concern over putting out a good strong side.

“We have been unlucky with injuries, but we have 14 fit players, and that is not including Paul [Telfer] and Wayne [Shaw] who can do a job.

“If it came to it, I can dip into the loan market – I have the contacts. We had Kane Haysmann here for a time and he did very well, there would be nothing stopping me going back to Gillingham to request his return.”

He added: “But I don’t want to get too many loan players in, because that can really affect the spirit of the team.

Still out: Marvin Williams is up to three weeks away from a return to action

“They have worked so hard and are really gelling as a team. What people don’t realise is that they do not get paid in pre-season while they are working to get fit.

“It would be unfair to make them do all that work and then bring in a host of stars as the season goes on.”

Dorchester Town have won just twice in the Skrill South, and are without a win in any competition in six games.

Doswell said: “If we’re serious about getting promotion, we should be winning these games. If we don’t, then we would be shooting ourselves in the foot.

“We’re unbeaten since August, but we could do with a win – and I am expecting one on Saturday.”
