Walton Casuals boss Mark Hams signed Turkish goalkeeper Ferhat Askoy and Fulham defender Daniel O’Reilly to little effect this week.

Askoy, 21, arrived from Turkish First Division side Orduspor, while 19-year-old O’Reilly – a Republic of Ireland U15 and U16 international –  agreed a short-term loan switch from Craven Cottage.

The pair made their debuts on Tuesday, but could not prevent a 4-3 Ryman Division One South defeat at Tooting & Mitcham leaving boss Mark Hams’ side without a win since December 21 after last week’s 6-1 drubbing at Burgess Hill Town.

Saturday’s clash with Whitstable Town – Walton’s first home game since December 17 – was abandoned due to floodlight failure, with the visitors leading 2-1.

Recent results mean the Stags have conceded 55 goals in 28 games – yet still sit sixth in the table – to leave Hams vowing to make changes.

“The table does not lie in terms of goal difference,”  said the manager.

“Our defending has been absolutely chronic. Pathetic.

“I try and take responsibility for defeats, but I cannot take responsibility for some of our defending.

“When you score three goals you should win the game, but at the moment we need to be scoring six.

“I will be making a few decisions on squad members this week.”
