Hampton & Richmond Borough count cost of call offs

Hampton & Richmond Borough chairman Steve McPherson has warned the bad weather could cost the club up to £20,000 in cold hard cash.

The Beavers have played only once this month as the bad weather has put the skids under their rise up the Ryman Premier League table.

And, while the club lives within its means, McPherson has warned he may have to go cap in hand to his fellow board members to cover the lost revenue.

“I know it is the same for everybody, but it does not help a club like us,” he said ahead of Saturday’s visit of Bognor Regis Town.

“We set a budget at the start of the season and we stick to that, but this weather is going to cost us between £10,000 and £20,000.

“The games get re-arranged but you never recoup potential weekend takings at midweek matches.

“Luckily we have a good board, who will help to cover the difference if it comes to it.”

McPherson has not given up hope of a play-off push this term and is looking to hand joint managers Darren Powell and Paul Barry – whose side are currently ninth in the table – a boost with the capture of a Conference Premier quality player in the coming weeks.

“We thought we had a good enough squad at the start of the season, but a lack of confidence or whatever meant we had a slow start,” he added.

“Charlie Moone’s goals have kept us in the hunt and if we can claw some ground back with a win over Bognor it will make things interesting.

“We will undoubtedly be a stronger prospect next season, but we have not given up hope on the play-offs this year, yet.”
