Sutton United boss Paul Doswell has admitted that the signing of two “raw talents” is a gamble.

However, he also believes that not knowing how Jessy Reindorf and Claudiu Hoben, signed earlier this week, will turn out gives him the best buzz in the game.

To balance the unknown quantities, Doswell has also recruited 37-year-old former Leyton Orient midfielder Matt Lockwood as player/coach.

Doswell said: “Jessy is a 22-year-old, 6ft 5in Frenchman of raw talent that needs coaching. He scored a wonder goal for Bury against Norwich in the League Cup last season, so he has ability.

“If we can mould him we could have a real beast on our hands.”

He added: “But he and Claudiu, [a 22-year-old Romanian] are gambles and if they turn out to be rubbish, well we have Jamie [Taylor] and Marvin [Williams], and if they turn out to be great, that’s terrific too.

“The not knowing is the exciting bit. I was really disappointed to miss out on promotion last year, but these lads are what give me the get up and go again.”

He added: “Claudiu is another young raw talent, who is not the finished article. But from we have seen of him he is a really exciting prospect.

“I can see the teamtaking shape, with the new young players alongside the likes of Craig [Dundas], Dale [Binns] and Jamie [Taylor] is a really good way to go.
