Assistant boss Graham Harper has warned striker Nathaniel Pinney if he thinks he has life at Kingstonian cracked, he has another thing coming.

The 23-year-old took his pre-season tally to six goals with his third double strike as Ks came from 2-0 down at Whyteleafe to draw 2-2 with the Ryman Division One South new boys on their new 3G pitch.

Pinney is a direct replacement for departed hero Ryan Moss and Harper wants his man to find the target when it counts on August 9.

“It is all well and good doing it in pre-season,” he said.

“Scoring goals is what we want from him, but you win nothing in pre-season.

“He has got to keep his feet on the ground, keep working hard like he is because we know that if he gets chances he will score goals.

“But he has to do that in the league where it counts.”

Boss Tommy Williams is in talks with two players – including former Farnborough man Dan Bennett – over a possible move to Kingsmeadow after impressing in the Geoff Harvey Memorial Vase earlier this month.

But Harper admits adding players to the squad will mean there may be some difficult decision to make on the horizon.

“We are in talks with Dan. We hope his signing is imminent,” he added.

“He is a great player and has done really well, but we cannot sign everyone. We only have a small squad and we will have to do some juggling.

“Pre-season has gone well, but you cannot really judge a player until we get into a competitive situation.

“We will have some tough decisions to make, but they are good decisions to have because in the past we’ve been scrabbling around to get players in.

“Some good players may end up disappointed, but that is the nature of the beast.

“The players we bring in will only strengthen us.”

Kingstonian travel to Tooting & Mitcham United on Saturday and host Braintree Town on Monday night.
