Former Hampton & Richmond Borough favourite Craig Tanner has led Tooting & Mitcham United to the London Senior Cup final, writes Tim Ashton.
A 1-0 win over Cray Valley on Tuesday night, thanks to Saidhu Khan’s strike, sealed their place in the final at Imber Court on May 6, but the Terrors must wait to discover their opponents.
Tanner said: “The final is not for me, it’s for the team as many of the lads won’t have experienced playing in a cup final before.
“It’s been a disappointing season, so hopefully this will spur us on to a good finish.”
Striker Charlie Moone bemoaned his side’s inconsistency last week and the Beavers proved his point.
Hampton crashed 2-1 at struggling VCD Athletic on Saturday, having beaten Ryman Premier League leaders Maidstone United days earlier.
Moone then combined with Tom Collins to give Hampton a 2-0 lead over Grays Athletic on Wednesday only for boss Alan Dowson’s men to crash 3-2 to a last minute winner – Moone picked up a red card for his troubles.
Hampton host fourth-placed Hendon on Saturday.
