Kingstonian boss Tommy Williams slammed his side’s first half performance against Leatherhead on Monday night as “embarrassing” .

Vas Karagiannis’ double strike and a Phil Walsh header were compounded by a straight red card for George Wells, leaving Ks 3-0 down and a man short at the break.

Williams demanded a reaction in the second half, and although there were to be no more goals, Tanners went closest in the dying moments when Kiernan Hughes-Mason hit the post.

Under the watchful eye of Met Police boss Jim Cooper in the stands, who travel to Kingsmeadow this weekend, Williams admitted it was a night to forget.

“Defensively we’re usually very solid, we’ve built from the back since we’ve come here as the management team, but we got our distances and lines wrong and we got punished,” he said.

“It was very disappointing, and the first half was embarrassing.

“George [Wells] and Sam [Page] struggled on the left – Leatherhead’s danger man was on their right, and he took his goals very well, but we gave him far too much room and we cannot do that.

“I wanted a reaction and I got one in the second half even though the game was gone. It could have been a lot more embarrassing.”

Leatherhead: Boss stays grounded despite hitting the perfect six

Williams, who was serving the last of a two-match touchline ban, has promised Ks fans a turnaround in fortune, starting with Met Police this weekend.

However, he is also desperate to get his suspended and injured players back into action.

He said: “We will get better, we’ve got six players sitting in the stand which doesn’t help and we had to change our shape slightly because of injuries and suspensions.

Chance: Dan Bennett squanders Ks' best opening of the first half

“But we’re not going to make excuses – there was not enough desire in the first half, we did not move the ball well enough, which they were instructed to.”

He added: “It was a night to forget for me. We need a reaction on Saturday – Jim [Cooper] from Met Police was in the stands, so he’ll be rubbing his hands together with glee after watching that.

“But once we’re back fully fit and loaded, I have no doubt we will pick up points.

"It was a frustrating night for everyone and the supporters deserve better than that, and I can assure you it will come.”

Pelayo Pico-Gomes missed the defeat with a calf injury and is a doubt for this weekend, while Peter Dean could be available after overcoming a foot problem.
