Sutton United manager Paul Doswell has described the allegations of biting levelled at Jamie Collins as an “embarrassment”.

The skipper has been accused of biting the arm of Concord Rangers defender Adam Bailey-Dennis during United’s 3-0 win on Saturday.

The Echo newspaper printed a picture of the incident that appeared to show Collins’ mouth clamped onto the defender’s arm as the pair tussled on the ground.

However, Doswell said: “Jamie made a great clearance, and the big defender – he’s about 6’ 7” – went through him and landed on top of him.

“It was a bad tackle, he should have been sent off for a second yellow. He laid on top of Jamie and would not let him get off the floor.

“One of their supporters took some photos showing Jamie’s mouth shoved in the defender’s elbow, I’m not surprised because they were wrapped round each-other.”

He added: “It’s embarrassing really. We spoke to Bailey-Dennis after the game, they both shook hands. It is something out of nothing.

“The lad who took the photos showed them to the assistant boss and he’s moaned to the referee, who has seen nothing from about two yards away.

“We have been asked by the FA for our observations, but it’s not a Luis Suarez scenario where the guy’s got a bite mark and nothing will come of it.

“It was a non-event and it does not detract at all from our best away performance of the season against a side that was unbeaten in five games.”

Meanwhile, United could be reinstated into the FA Trophy after the FA confirmed they were investigating Concord Rangers for fielding an ineligible player in their win over United two weekends ago.

The FA is expected to make a decision by the end of tomorrow (Friday), and if reinstated United will host Lowestoft Town for a place in the first round proper.

In the meantime, United are due to travel to Hayes & Yeading this weekend looking to stay in the National League South play-offs.
