Sutton United boss Paul Doswell is stressing caution ahead of a possible move for Nicky Bailey.

In an effort to find a new team, the experienced midfielder has been given permission by League Two Barnet to train with United until his contract expires on January 23.

Bailey made more than 100 appearances for Barnet, and commanded a £1.4m transfer fee when he signed for Charlton Athletic from Middlesbrough in 2010.

Doswell has long been an admirer of the 31-year-old, who played in the open training match against Crystal Palace U21s on Tuesday.

The boss said: "Nicky has been training with us for the past week, and it is a case of watch this space.

"We are not committed to him, he's not committed to us. He asked if he could come and train with us, it was a perfect opportunity for us to watch him against Palace.

"He has enjoyed training with us, he knows a couple of the lads which is nice and he looks half-decent."

He added: "But we have to be careful, we don't want to upset the spirit in the club that we have at the moment, it's all about getting the balance."
