Sutton United are absolutely flying at the moment and the atmosphere around Gander Green Lane reflects that.

Dartford had not lost in the league since October until the game last Saturday, but United made them look very average and were well worth their win.

While the attack are doing their job spectacularly well, the defence deserve a lot of credit too – indeed excluding the Surrey Senior Cup game at Corinthian-Casuals, United have kept five clean sheets in their past six games.

It was great to see the main stand singing along and adding to the noise levels at Gander Green Lane, which has gone from soulless to rocking in a very short period of time.

With Ebbsfleet losing at home to Margate, the gap is now just nine points, with United having a game in hand on top of this as well as a superior goal difference.

400 up: Sutton United legend will keep playing until he drops...

While reaching the play-offs would still be considered a success there is clearly an ambition in both the players and the supporters to catch the Fleet and win the title at the end of April.

Whether this will happen or not is too soon to say, but with current players the club have got and the form they’re on you certainly wouldn’t write it off.

It is worth remembering that the pressure is firmly on Ebbsfleet with all the money spent on attempting to rise up the football pyramid.

If Paul Doswell’s men can keep the pressure up right until the end of the season who knows what might happen?
