Sutton United head coach Ian Baird says they are considering the red card dished out to Kevin Amankwaah in last night’s 2-1 win at Maidstone United.
Goals from Dan Wishart and Craig Eastmond saw off the Stones’ challenge and lifted United to within three points of National League South leaders Ebbsfleet, but with two games in hand.
However, the result was marred when Amankwaah was sent off just mid-way through the first half for raising his hands against Stones keeper Lee Worgan.
The full-back was lying injured after the ball went into touch behind the Stones goal, and he reacted when Worgan pulled him to his feet.
Baird said: “First of all I think it was a corner. Their keeper looks like he has made the most of it and the referee looked like he was eager to get the red card out.
“That’s the most disappointing thing. It’s an important game with more than 3,000 fans in the ground, and the referee could not wait to get the card out.
“We’ve not had chance to have a look at a replay, but we are considering appealing the decision.”
More reaction to come.
