The U’s manager branded pitch invaders as ‘not being real Sutton United fans’ following the team’s strong performance against Arsenal in the fifth-round of the FA Cup.

Hundreds of fans ran onto the pitch after the final whistle blew on the Gunner’s 2-0 victory at Gander Green Lane before police intervened.

Fans were seen skirmishing with each other and climbing the crossbar near at the Gander Green Lane end of the ground.

Mr Doswell also criticised a streaker, who was arrested shortly after he ran onto the artificial surface wearing nothing but trainers, a pair of pants and a giraffe mask, in the game’s 11th minute.

Steven Maisey, 27, of Green Lane, in Morden, was charged with pitch incursion and has been bailed to appear at Croydon Crown Court on Monday, March 6.

A 15-year-old was arrested for breach of the peace after the match, but was later de-arrested after he was taken home.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed a bottle was thrown at him during the game

U’s manager Paul Doswell said: “They are not real Sutton United supporters, they are idiots.

“Those people had not attended our games before and they are people who just wanted to make a name for themselves, like that man who ran onto the pitch during the game.”

“They are no real fans of Sutton United. It’s a very disappointing thing, but it did not take away from the team’s effort and that of the real supporters.”
