Ks boss will resist wholesale changes this summer
Boss Alan Dowson will stop short of dismantling his current Ks squad next season, but it depends on how his side finish this term.
Kingstonian face an uphill struggle to make the Ryman Premier League play-offs after an 80th minute Louis-Rae Beadle strike salvaged a draw with fourth-placed Bury Town on Sunday.
Dowson’s men are seven points adrift of the top five with nine games remaining after a run of just two defeats in their last 13 games.
And the manager has insisted that is the sort of form he will be looking for from now on to decide who might still be at the club come August.
“There will be changes but there won’t be loads I wouldn’t have thought and there certainly won’t be any contracts thrown about,” he said.
“I’m not going to make the same mistakes as last year.
“With the budget we have, fans should be happy with a top ten finish, but we are more ambitious than that.
“We have conceded 11 goals in three games against the top two this season so that tells you how far we are away from getting towards the top five.
“The closer we can get to the top five this season, the less changes there will be. But it depends on what the points difference between us and the top is.
“We’ll look at everything that has happened this season and analyse where we need to improve.”
Substitute Beadle’s effort set up a frantic finale on Sunday, but Ks fell short of the three points as the scores finished level between the two teams for the fourth time in four games.
“It was one of the best performances of the season. I can’t believe we didn’t win with the possession we had in the final third,” added Dowson.
Ks host Dulwich Hamlet in the London Senior Cup quarter-finals on Monday and Dowson, pictured below, admitted tomorrow’s visit of Aveley is also critical.
“We’ve got a lot to do to make the play-offs. I think we have left it too late to be honest,” he said.
“This weekend could make ior break us. Saturday is a must win game and it would be nice to have a cup semi-final too.”
