Super-fast Ks can set league on fire

Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson hoped his side’s new found pace would earn them more respect this season.

Ks blew away Harrow Borough on Monday night with two goals in the opening 10 minutes of a blistering second half show, having gone in at the break with the scores level at 1-1.

Aaron Goode and Andre McCollin notched twice before Dean Lodge added to his first half penalty with another successful spot-kick with 15 minutes left on the clock.

It followed Saturday’s 1-1 draw at East Thurrock United and helped Ks hit the top of the Ryman Premier League table prior before slipping back to sixth after Tuesday night’s fixtures.

Dowson’s men lost 5-2 to United on the final day of last season and the Kings- meadow chief had said that Saturday’s result would be a good barometer by which to judge his side’s chances this term.

And he admitted Monday’s showing from Lodge, McCollin, Wade Small and Craig Mullen would mean the rest of the division might take his side more seriously this season.

“Attacking wise that is one of the best performances I have seen in many years,” he said.

“Defensively we conceded some sloppy goals. We didn’t deserve to be 1-0 down against the run of play, but overall I have to be delighted at that display.

“We’ve never had pace at this club, not for about four or five years. It makes one hell of a difference.

“I don’t think other teams will be scared of our pace, but they may give us a bit more respect because last season we were a bit powder puff.

“The lads up front are not only quick, but they work very hard as well.

“I thought Andre McCollin was phenomenal on Monday as was Wade Small and Dean Lodge.

So if you get three lads who are quick, but also hard workers you always have half a chance.”

And he admitted there was work needed at the other end for Saturday’s clash with  visitors Margate at Kingsmeadow.

“I’m delighted going forward, but I have to get the defence right,” said boss Dowson.
