This Sunday, Wimbledon stadium will hold one of the premier motorsport events of the season as organisers Spedeworth look to crown the Best in Britain.

The best and the quickest drivers from four formulas will all look to claim the prestigious title.

The 2l hot rods make their first appearance in the capital of the new season, where Gavin Botfield still leads the national points, but is slowly being reeled in by Mark Paffey and recently crowned English and Midland champion Paul Wright.

Feltham-based Charlie Jowers will also be full of confidence after taking the Dutch Open Trophy at the Ter Apel track, at the back end of September.

After their World Championship at the start of October, the superstox return to Wimbledon stadium, for the first time. If the action is anything like that evening’s racing, then we are certainly in for a treat.

It really is hard to look past anyone but Stephen Jackson, as he was in a different class that evening.

After being taken out when challenging for the lead, he managed to come from the very back of the field to retain his World title.

Leader: Gavin Botfield

Jason Cooper is always one to watch out for, and was a favourite for many people in the World Final, but after some shocking bad luck, he failed to achieve a place.

Following on from their Polleysport and Yokohoma Tyre Series decider just a few weeks ago, the lightning rods are back at Plough Lane.

Jason Busby was victorious to win the series, after a hard fought battle that started all the way back in January.

On the night, he narrowly beat Ashley Birkin to take the series title.

Birkin would love to go one better this time round, and to be crowned Best in Britain, as would Lee Skoyles who performed well when he last visited Wimbledon stadium.

Proven round Plough Lane: Jimmy Morris

The 1,300 stock cars who have also been in action here recently, complete the racing. Last time out on gala night, the big winner was Dan Rosenthal, taking a win in the heats and then the final.

Home fans on the terraces will want to see a bit more from two of the capital’s most popular and experienced drivers.

Keith Conlon and Jimmy Morris have both proven themselves around the Plough Lane oval on many an occasion, but equally both have been struggling for form of late.

Racing starts at 5.30pm, with turnstiles open at 4.30pm.
