Kingston boxing champion Tony Ayinde is ready to finally settle his war of words with rival Jon Martin.

The pair go head to head on June 18 when Ayinde defends his Queensbury Boxing League welterweight title.

A hand injury sustained by Ayinde earlier this year forced the postponement of the original confrontation in May.

Now, after months of heated exchanges on social media and face to face, Ayinde has warned his challenger that he is walking into trouble.

Ayinde said: “Jon Martin is coming in to the lion’s den.

“He’s playing a dangerous game coming up to my weight division to challenge me.

“We were supposed meet back in May, but the injury ended that and there was no way I was going to put my title on the line and enter the ring not fully fit.”

Bournemouth’s Martin has already tasted title success in the competition, winning the regional light welterweight title, but the champion seems unfazed by the challenge that awaits him.

“Jon talks a lot, but I’m the champion at this weight and I’ll be staying champion and moving on to bigger things once I’ve taken care of him,” he said.

“There was nobody more annoyed than me after having to pull out of the first fight, but I’m going to be back with a vengeance this time and I’m going to beat him in style.”

Ayinde will defend his title against Martin on June 18 at the Copthorne Effingham Park Hotel in West Sussex.
