Lenny Daws wants a shot at reclaiming his British light welterweight title this year after securing another victory on Saturday.

The Morden mauler out-pointed Chris Truman 79-75 in a close fight in Rotherham and should now go forward to a title eliminator against Adil Anwar.

The winner of that fight will face off against the winner of another eliminator between Curtis Woodhouse and Dale Miles for the chance to fight Ashley Theopane – who took Daws’ title away from him 12 months ago.

And Daws wants revenge sooner rather than later.

“I know I can get a title this year,” said 33-the year-old, who had hoped to be fighting at Madison Square Gardens next month but that has now fallen through.

“I am still giving 100 per cent and I am fitter, stronger, more intelligent and gaining experience all the time.

“It is just a matter of finding out when and where as anything can happen in boxing as things always change.

“I am still up there and the main thing is that I am active and I am winning.

“Whatever happens, as long as I am in gym and in shape then I will be ready.

“He was a tough fighter on Saturday but I didn’t box how I naturally do and I should not have dropped to his level.

“I was comfortable doing what I was doing and I know people said it was close but I think I was in front throughout.

“The main thing is I got the win and every fight is a learning curve.”
