Full-back Jim Thompson admits it is crunch time in London Scottish’s bid to finish in the Championship play-off spots, writes Andy Weston.

Scottish host Plymouth Albion on Saturday looking to make amends for last Friday’s shock 15-3 defeat at struggling Nottingham.

The loss saw London Scottish slip to fifth in the Championship, five points behind Bristol in fourth, who have a game in hand.

With tough away trips to league leaders Rotherham Titans and Leeds Carnegie on the horizon, Thompson knows victory this weekend is vital.

“It is getting to the business end of the season and every game is now massively important,” he said

“We need to win our home games and find more consistency on the road.”

He added: “Last Friday was disappointing.

“We made too many errors and gave away too many penalties, which allowed Nottingham to get a stranglehold on the game before half-time.

“We tried to force it in the second half and couldn’t score.”

Plymouth, with ex-Scottish star Dan Mugford in their ranks, produced the shock of the season last week, winning 36-15 at home to London Welsh – their first league win at Brickfields all season.

Scottish won 22-20 in Plymouth back in October and Thompson is under no illusions as to the challenge facing his team-mates.

“We watched the game against London Welsh and they were very impressive,  scoring some great tries,” he said.

“They have got a dangerous back three.

“They will be full of confidence and we need to make sure we play well, do the basics right and get the win.”
