Embarrassed: Esher coach Craig Chalmers

Esher coach Craig Chalmers is urging his troops to rediscover their early season form fast after an embarrassing 43-0 defeat to Coventry.

A dominant first half saw Coventry race to a 23-0 lead before adding a further 20 unanswered points in the second half to leave Esher winless in their past four National Division One matches.

Eight defeats since the start of the year have seen Esher throw away the chance for promotion as they have slipped to fifth in the table – much to the annoyance of Chalmers.

“Results like this are embarrassing not just for the players, but for the coaches and the club,” said the ex-Scotland international.

“It was certainly not the result we wanted or expected, so we are bitterly disappointed with how it turned out.

“We are really disappointed because we got ourselves into a good position after 11 or 12 games, but then we have just let it slip.”

Esher’s James Campbell will face no further RFU disciplinary action after being sent off for a second yellow – card offence in Saturday’s defeat to Coventry.

Campbell was charged with acts contrary to good sportsmanship, but the red card he received was deemed sufficient punishment at a hearing on Wednesday.
