London Scottish scrum half Jordi Pasqualin is relishing the challenge of keeping rival number nine Jamie Stevenson warming the bench, writes Andy Weston.

Pasqualin, who joined the club in the summer from Newcastle,  has been given the nod for tomorrow’s visit of Nottingham, despite featuring in last week’s 31-18 defeat at Bristol.

And he is not taking his starting slot for granted with Scotland A international Stevenson breathing down his neck.

“We haven’t got the biggest squad but what we do have
is a very talented bunch across the board,” said the 23-year-old.

“We have got two very good 10s in Lee Millar and Dan Newton and at nine Jamie is a talented player.

“He keeps me on my toes and I do the same for him. We help each other out.

“I can only concentrate on my own performance during a game and hopefully selection will come off the back of that.”

Pasqualin admitted to an element of frustration after Sunday’s reverse in the west country, that featured tries from Miles Mantella and Lee Millar.

But the former Falcon feels they showed enough quality to prove they can mix it with the Championship’s best.

He said: “We can take a huge amount of encouragement from the weekend and we are excited how we can progress that through the season.

“There was some frustration among the boys at Bristol. We were ahead at half time, but there was a big two-minute period at the start of the second half where momentum shifted.

“We could have extended the lead to 10 points when Mike (Doneghan) was held up just short and then we got a man sin-binned, which
resulted in them taking control.”

“The boys are looking forward to having home advantage on Saturday and feel like they have a point to prove.

“Nottingham will be very direct, but our defence against Bristol showed we can cope with some of the biggest and strongest sides in the league.”
