The past year may have been a momentous one for London Scottish, but head coach Simon Amor wants 2012 to be remembered just as fondly.

Scottish won promotion to the Championship in May thanks to a last-minute try against Barking on the last day of the season to continue their resurgence up the rugby pyramid.

Since then, they have undergone changes both on and off the field leaving Amor excited for what 2012 holds.

“We’ve learned some lessons since we arrived in the Championship, and I’m looking forward to kicking on in 2012,” he said.

“We’ll have some important players returning to the squad, and I think that it will be an exciting time for everyone at London Scottish.”

One big difference for the club this year has been the level of Scottish representation in their team – 11 Scottish-qualified players took the field in the final British and Irish Cup Pool match against Melrose in December.

“One of our key long-term aims is to develop young Scottish talent, and the Melrose game was a great advertisement for that,” added Amor.

“By bringing players such as Jamie Sole and Mark Robertson to London we hope to encourage a greater number of young, talented Scottish players to make the move south and experience a higher standard of competition in the Championship.

“Scottish player development has always been a key part of London Scottish’s goals.”

Scottish began the year with a 19-17 defeat at Leeds Carnegie on Sunday, with Dan Mugford scoring all their points through a try and four penalties. They host Plymouth Albion tomorrow.

Scottish chairman David Reid, the former chairman of Tesco, is celebrating being knighted in the New Year’s honours list for services to business and charity.
